Your Days are Numbered!!

I went into the doctor on Thursday for my weekly Coumadin check. (Yes, I have been on it for 6 months, but they have NEVER been able to get my levels to remain accurate so I have to keep getting my blood checked weekly. They think that might be why I threw the clot in my leg in March.) Anyway, April 18th will be my 6 month "anniversary" and my doctor told me I could QUIT on April 24th. YAHOO!!!!!! I do have to have a few more tests run after the Coumadin has been out of my system for 2 weeks. If those come back clear I will be done with that nasty drug! I am so sorry for anyone who has to take this for their lifetime. I am grateful for what it has done to improve my health, but there are so many side effects that I experienced that I almost feel like April 24th is my "birthday"!

On a side note, I apparently have a new best friend! ;-) Not really, but I injured my upper back/shoulder about 2 weeks ago. My doctor recommended physical therapy for awhile to help things get under control. Normally he would do a trigger point injection, but with Coumadin, well, enough said! Anyway, my "friend's" name is Mike and he is an amazing physical therapist. He, too, has had problems with blood clots and understands what I am going through. He is afraid to do any "deep tissue" massage since I bruise so easily right now, but after only one treatment of "mid to light tissue" massage I have felt tremendous relief. I love physical therapy! It is like getting a massage that your insurance pays for!!!!!

Just an FYI, no I have not reinjured my back and am looking at 7 MORE years of back pain. This is just one of those "pains" that everyone experiences. It is SO great not to have to worry about chronic back pain. I am almost 2 years post-surgery from my lower back fusion and I am SO GRATEFUL for the relief I have had. I was able to weed my flower gardens yesterday and can still walk today! Oh, the marvels of modern medicine! Thank you, Father in Heaven, for letting me experience pain so I could know how amazing it feels to NOT experience pain! Today, life is good!

When I first started reading this blog I misunderstood coumidin to be Comeau-dian. I thought that maybe you'd been having checkups to see if you were still a Comeau?? Is your physical therapist Mike Bond? I went to him for my ankle and I was very impressed. no pun intended.

I'm sure there are some out there who would prefer I was no longer a Comeau--thakfully Doug is not one of them! ;-) Yes, it is Mike Bond. He truly is a good impresser! Pun intended!!!!

That's great news Alicia! Hope you can stay off that stuff. I too love a good massage but have never had the luxury of having insurance pay for it. Sigh!
