Yet Another Teaching Story!

My teacher friends and our spouses all went out to dinner tonight. We were reminiscing about some of our favorite moments so far this year. I remembered one that I haven't shared with you yet.

A couple of months ago, Doug called me on his way into work. He drives by the back of our playground and on this particular day, there were two boys out there. Recess had been over for a couple of minutes so they were obviously up to no good. As Doug got closer, he had quite the view of these 2 little first-graders having a "potty break" while facing the road.

He called me to give me a heads up. Since my student teacher was there at the time, I decided to go intercept these two on their way to class. One of them went around the building the long way, but the other one came in right at the door where I was waiting. As he came in, I stopped him and say, "Hey Buddy, did you just go potty on the playground?"

He looked me in the eye, dropped his head in a defeated sort of way and sighs, "Okay." Yeah, he knew he was busted. I got the vice-principal on the case (once again confirming the fact that I NEVER want to be an administrator) and went back to my classroom with a giggle and an admonition from the vp to inform Doug not to call the school next time, because then we can all pretend that nothing happened. Ahhhh, I wish that some of my 5th graders would be as honest as that little guy!

I'd think you could be talking about my son if we didn't live in different states!

You never told me that one! I'm sorry I missed it.
