Well, we have now been back from Camp Steiner for nearly a month. I finally feel like I have my life back to a somewhat "normal" working condition. I only have one box left of blankets and sleeping bags left to wash, I cleared the remaining camp clutter off of my porch, I have my classroom running nicely and my grades are all current--for the moment! :) Anyway, I really miss camp more than I ever thought I would. Rather than bore you in a day-to-day account of our last few weeks at camp, I am going to give you the "Top 10 List of Things I Miss About Camp," and the "Top 10 Things I DON'T Miss About Camp". This should be pretty exciting......or not! :)
The Top 10 Things I DO MISS About Camp
#10--The peaceful tranquility found in the mountains.
#9--A "hot" day reaching 72 degrees.
#8--Not having to COOK or DO THE DISHES.
#7--Having my kids have to rely on each other for friends.
#6--Captain Kybo and his "lovely" assistant, Latrina.
#5--Not having to blow-dry or curl my hair every day.
#4--All of our cute staff members (AND the not-so cute ones, too!).
#3--Never having to decide, "What should I wear today??"
#2--"Paperwork"
#1--Seeing Doug every day.
The Top 10 Things I DON'T MISS About Camp
#10--Wearing a Scout Uniform. (Yeah, I know that conflicts with #4 above, but what can I say? I don't know any woman who looks attractive in a Scout Uniform!!!!)
#9--Getting my shoes and coat on to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
#8--Stinky, yucky kybos.
#7--Mice in my cabin.
#6--Chipmunks stealing chocolate from my trading post.
#5--300+ 12-16 year old boys who REEEAAAAALLLLLY need to shower.
#4--Driving 45 minutes to make a phone call to check up on my mom after her heart surgery.
#3--Showering in the kitchen--in the dark.
#2--Altitude sickness.
#1--SNOW IN AUGUST!!!!!! (Was anyone aware that I hate winter???)
Here are a few more pictures from our amazing family-bonding experience this past summer. And by the way, Doug has been asked to be the Camp Director again next summer, so why don't you plan to come visit us for a few hours, a few days, or longer?
The snow really is pretty--just NOT in August! :(

"Leech Lake" from the Climbing wall--so-called because of the overabundance of leeches. They were sure nasty looking critters!!!!

It looks like you guys had an amazing (if chilly) summer. Welcome back to civilization. Maybe in the months ensuing until next year, you should figure out a way to modify the scout uniform to be more figure-flattering. (Don't get me wrong, I saw the pics of you with said uniform and might I say, you do look incredible. You were rockin' that kerchief!) I promise not to tell BSA of any changes made to the sacred green and tan, and I am sure scout ladies everywhere will thank you.
Jenny, I will have you know I did NOT have a kerchief! (I did, however, have one of the carved bolo ties--made to look like Smokey the Bear.) The only way I can think of to make the Scout uniform more figure-flattering is to throw it away! :)
Hello...Shelley Long in Troop Beverly Hills??
If leech lake has too many leeches in it, the obvious question - what does Scout lake have in it? And are they just as nasty to look at?
How could anyone miss paperwork? What is your hidden meaning Alicia?
Did I read that right? You're doing this again NEXT summer? Are you still suffering from altitude sickness? :) J/K it sounds like it was a good experience overall with a few unpleasantries.
Paperwork = NAP TIME!!!!!! :)
I love that you too still have a horizon elementary shirt. Thanks for sharing Mikayla with us. Sorry to hear about your mom. Is everything okay?
